CostRule publishes installation and repair cost data for home improvement projects in the United States, organized by component, material, and project size. The site launched with flooring — carpet, solid hardwood, vinyl plank and engineered hardwood installation costs — with further materials and categories added only once the underlying data for them is complete.
Why this exists
Most cost-estimate sites online show a single number with no indication of where it came from. Every labor cost on the site traces back to a specific trade and state in published U.S. Bureau of Labor Statistics wage data, and every material price is dated and sourced at the time it was collected. The goal isn’t to be the fastest cost guide to load — it’s to be the one where a reader can check the work.
How the site is built
CostRule is produced by Keydams. There is no editorial “team” of named writers or on-camera personalities behind the content — the organization is the author of record, and every page states where its numbers came from. Where a page has been reviewed by a licensed tradesperson, that reviewer’s name and license number will be shown; until that review process exists, the field stays blank rather than filled with a name that isn’t real.

What CostRule is not
CostRule does not employ contractors, does not currently run advertising, and does not currently earn commissions from any purchase. It is not a substitute for a written quote from a licensed contractor for your specific project — the numbers on this site are ranges drawn from published wage and price data, not a bid.
